Tips Before You Go
If you're planning to visit a National Park, it's a good idea to research the park and plan for your trip.
Make sure you take plenty of water and tell a responsible person about your walking route plans.
You can read more tips about preparing for your walk at the National Parks website.
Help protect our National Parks by following these guidelines:
- Leave your pets at home
- Take your rubbish home with you
- Observe fire restrictions (usually from 1 November to 30 April)
- Conserve native habitat by using liquid fuel or gas stoves
- Camp only in designated areas
- Do not feed or disturb animals or remove plants
- Keep to defined vehicle tracks and walking trails
Park closures
From time to time, National Parks are closed for maintenance or due to weather factors. For information on park closures, go to the Parks website.
Fire bans
In most parks, the fire ban season is from 1 November to 30 April. No wood fires are permitted in the parks at this time. Some parks have year-round bans on wood fires. Open flames are banned in all parks on days of extreme fire. Parks may be closed on total fire ban days. The SA Country Fire Service provides further information or telephone 1300 362 361.
