If they really want to get down 'n' dirty, take the family to the Burra Monster Mine. You can safely go underground and walk the lengthy (well-lit) drives. If you hear hoots and squeals of delight coming from beneath your feet, you'll know why!
Mintaro Maze is a traditional hedge maze that is guaranteed to lead the kids astray. This leafy conundrum puts on a special light show at Christmas, and at Easter there's the famous Mintaro Maze Bunny Hunt. Of course, no need to say 'And don't get lost…'
Beside Lake Inchiquin in Clare, the mini railway tracks rattle with electric diesel and occasionally steam trains - all providing rides for young passengers. These special events take place every second and fourth weekend in a month.
If they're keen to get their feet wet, lead them into the shallows of the Samphire Coast at Port Gawler for a spot of crabbing. With some deft rake-work, they can provide the family with a top feed of blue swimmers!
