Family Fun
Children will delight in Clare Valley's open spaces and magical nooks, its quirky characters from the past and gentle people of the present. Of course there are also attractions in the region that have younger visitors very much in mind.
If they really want to get down 'n' dirty, take the family to the Burra Monster Mine. You can safely go underground and walk the lengthy (well-lit) drives. If you hear hoots and squeals of delight coming from beneath your feet, you'll know why!
Mintaro Maze is a traditional hedge maze that is guaranteed to lead the kids astray. This leafy conundrum puts on a special light show at Christmas, and at Easter there's the famous Mintaro Maze Bunny Hunt. Of course, no need to say 'And don't get lost…'
Beside Lake Inchiquin in Clare, the mini railway tracks rattle with electric diesel and occasionally steam trains - all providing rides for young passengers. These special events take place every second and fourth weekend in a month.
If they're keen to get their feet wet, lead them into the shallows of the Samphire Coast at Port Gawler for a spot of crabbing. With some deft rake-work, they can provide the family with a top feed of blue swimmers!
Youthful spirits meet pioneering spirits on a Burra Trail Ride.
Join an experienced guide on a half-day, day-long and even three-day tour into the beautiful scenic hills at the back of the historic mining town. Bush tucker and campfire chat makes for an adventure they'll never forget.
And of course there's the glorious Riesling Trail for fresh air and family fun. Clare Valley Cycle in Clare hires bikes for younger cyclists and can even provide baby seats; Sevenhill Cellars also has bikes for hire.
If the weather's bad, don't forget the feel-good cinema at Blyth, set up by artist Ian Roberts.
