Adelaide Botanic Garden is a good place to begin, a haven in the heart of the city, with exceptional collections of native and exotic plants.
Mount Lofty Botanic Garden in the Adelaide Hills has a range of cool temperate plants including stunning displays of magnolias, rhododendrons, camellias, roses and peonies that are particularly spectacular in the cooler months.
Springtime offers a magnificent display of flowers, particularly in the Flinders and Gawler Ranges where the wildflowers spectacularly bloom. Nearly half of South Australia's plant species can be found in this rugged terrain including South Australia's floral emblem Sturt's Desert Pea.

Kangaroo Island is home to 850 species of native plants with more than 400 found in Flinders Chase National Park. The Kangaroo Island narrowleaf mallee, found only on the island, can be seen in groves along the roadsides and is harvested for making the island's pure eucalyptus oil.
Vulkathunha Gammon Ranges National Park is arid wilderness with rugged, spectacular scenery. Belair National Park may surprise you with its beautiful varieties of orchids and other wildflowers in bloom.
Many South Australian gardens participate in Australia's Open Garden Scheme, which "opens" private gardens of every size, style and description to the public. You can find out about South Australia's participants at the Open Garden Scheme website.
