When you're enjoying the Riverland's houseboats, water sports, fishing and more, take time out to discover our heritage.

Loxton Historical Village
This site traces back the history of settlement in the region. From time to time the village comes to life with 'Village Alive Days', when town folk dress in traditional clothing and re-enact life as it was for settlers.

Cobdogla Irrigation and Steam Museum
The Cobdogla Irrigation and Steam Museum houses the impressive Humphrey pump, the only working model of its kind in the world. It's gas-driven and fed by water from Joiner's Lagoon near the site of the original Cobdogla Station Homestead. See the pump in action and then take a ride on Margaret the Steam train.

Overland Corner Hotel
The historic Overland Corner Hotel is both pub and living museum. Commissioned in the 1850s, it was a refreshment point for weary travellers and locals. It's still as popular today, so stop by and soak up the atmosphere. You might even see the resident ghost who has been blamed for many an unexplainable event. It's 18 kilometres north of Barmera (off the Morgan road B64).

Or explore the many different river environments - from the floodplain and billabongs to the limestone cliffs - of the Overland Corner Walking Trail. This trail explores the European and Indigenous heritage of the area and features a large ochre quarry encrusted with ancient fossils.

Olivewood Estate
The watershed in Renmark's history was the development of the irrigation schemes in the late 1880s that turned Riverland into Australia's fruit bowl. The Canadian-born Chaffey brothers are often called the founders of Renmark and their original home, Olivewood, is now a National Trust museum. Walk through and gain an insight into the history of the town.

Morgan Historic Port and Museum
The restored wharf precinct captures the early river trading days, and the town's museums bring to life the stories of the paddle steamer era. The Landseer Building, once a shipping agent's storehouse, is filled with a remarkable collection of old engines and wagons - even a mural made from wool. The historic railway station that once handled an assortment of cargo and passengers transferring from river to rail has been transformed into a museum of river and rail history. Make time for a close look at the fascinating historic photos here.
