Regional Produce
The climate of year-round sunshine coupled with innovative irrigation has made the Riverland a land of bounty. It's the engine-room of Australia's wine industry and the heart of South Australia's citrus and stone fruit production.
The Riverland's abundance doesn't only spring from the vines. The mesmerising rows of orchards supply up to 95 per cent of South Australia's stone fruits, citrus and almonds. The many roadside produce stalls that line the Sturt and Old Sturt highways make for tempting stops along the way.
You can buy the region's famous dried fruits and other local produce in each town. And throughout the countryside, there are restaurants, cafés, pubs and excellent food-to-go outlets.
The Riverland Farmers' Market is on every Saturday morning from 7.30am until 11.30am, at the Senior Citizens Hall on Crawford Terrace in Berri. You'll find fresh quality produce sourced direct from the Riverland producer. By purchasing and cooking produce in season you capture flavours and aromas that will tantalise and satisfy the palate beyond expectations.
Dining
Eating outside by the water is, of course, a true holiday experience. As well as eating at smart riverbank cafés and restaurants, friendly pubs and clubs, you can dine on the water on a Riverland houseboat.
Inland, there are fun rustic places, juice bars, an organic farm and elegant dining in historic houses. One thing is for sure - in a region with such a reliable climate there are plenty of opportunities to work off that feast!
