The Kangaroo Island Gallery (est. in 1988) is in the heart of Kingscote, situated on the protected waters of Nepean Bay. Housed in a Council owned heritage listed building and only a short walk from the main street and seafront, it is easily located in Murray Street at the end of the Town Hall building.
Operating as an artist’s cooperative, it is run as a not for profit organisation with artists staffing and managing the gallery. By nature of the diversity of artists using different mediums and with varying levels of experience, the Gallery provides an opportunity to explore the breadth of Kangaroo Island inspired art. Artists that are now represented in national and state galleries had their beginnings here.
The Gallery showcases a diverse range of artwork at affordable prices, including, glasswork, woodwork, sculptures, solar and eco prints, etchings, textiles, pottery, photography and paintings in many mediums. Handmade quality cards in various mediums are also available.
The Youth of Kangaroo Island often work in partnership with the Gallery to enhance their town with Public Art Projects, one of which can be viewed at the rear of this building.
