Discover the history of South Australia through the stories of people and communities. In our galleries you will meet people from all around the world, from the original Aboriginal inhabitants of this place, through generations of migrants from Britain and Ireland, Europe, Asia and beyond.
Our permanent displays tell the ongoing story of our state and its development to the present day. The Migration Museum collection reflects the diverse cultures of South Australia. From trunks to toys, documents to dresses, surveying equipment to sewing machines, and passports to parasols, all of our objects have a story to tell.
Visit the Migration Museum’s special gallery, The Forum, where community groups share their own stories. Our ever-changing program of temporary exhibitions explores different aspects of the state’s history. We also tell the rich history of our site and its past as part of the Destitute Asylum.
