Start your exploration of the Willunga Slate Trail at the Willunga Courthouse and Slate Museum. The heritage-listed Courthouse Museum is an authentic nineteenth century courtroom with jury and prisoner boxes, cells and exercise yard - ideal for courtroom re-enactments. See displays of memorabilia from the old police station and court cases. Browse through family and district archives or enjoy the picturesque picnic areas and self-guided walking trail through the nature reserve across the creek. At the Slate Museum find out how slate was discovered in 1840, quarried and the traditional skills and tools used by the Cornish quarrymen who migrated to this first quarry town "the slate capital of Australia". See how slate affected life, art and housing in Willunga. You see things here you will not see anywhere else. The nature reserve is a popular venue for weddings and functions, and explore further to see the remnant vegetation from before colonial settlement. Guided museum, township and group tours can be arranged. You can't drink wine all the time -- come and see us.
