The 54 year old artist shows us in her first solo-exhibition after 15 years of painting her deep connection to her country and her ancestors. For a better understanding of her artworks we let Janet tell you a bit about herself:
I am a proud Narungga, Kaurna & Adnyamathanha woman. Born in Maitland and growing up in Point Pearce (Bookyanna) with my family. I started painting 15 years ago, attended a visual arts course studying watercolour, acrylic, portraits and still life drawings. I did run Aboriginal Art Programs for schools aimed at maintaining their connections with their culture and cultural identities.
Growing up as a child my father would always took my siblings and myself out on the land to teach us how to hunt and look for food and after the land because that’s where our ancestors had lived which influenced the artworks I create. My passion is Aboriginal art paintings and acrylic is my preferred medium. I love painting a wide variety of Aboriginal animals and dot paintings. I create artworks which conveys great affection for my connection with my ancestors.
