Start date: 17 April 2017
Easter Monday at Oakbank features two of Australia’s richest jumping races — the Somerled Classic Hurdle and the Great Eastern Steeplechase.
2017 will see racing begin at Oakbank on Easter Monday at 11am, an earlier start than in previous years, meaning that racegoers (especially those with families) can enjoy a full day of racing and soaking up the unique Oakbank country racing atmosphere, and still make their way home by 4pm.
A new price of $15 for all general admission tickets has also been introduced for Easter Monday.
The Easter Racing Carnival has been one of South Australia’s premier social and sporting occasions for almost 150 years, and the annual pilgrimage to the Adelaide Hills track is for many a family tradition that goes back generations. Uniquely among SA race courses, racegoers can bring their own picnics and barbeques, and by early morning the car park is awash with marquees, tents and barbeques as families and friends soak up the unique country racing atmosphere.
A family-oriented event, the Easter Racing Carnival has plenty of activities and entertainment designed especially for kids, including rides and amusements, an animal petting zoo, face painting and roving entertainers.
