Making Monsters

Professional visual artist Jess Taylor, their very own ‘Victor Frankenstein’, taught the inventive students of Klemzig Primary School how to design monsters for Children’s Artspace.

Before the students started building their creations they had to attend ‘monster school’. During these workshops, Jess explained the history of monsters, and why most monsters are terrifying because they are part human, part something else. Like a werewolf, zombie, vampire, or mermaid.

Jess Taylor wanted the students to be able to design their monsters in three dimensions, resulting in wicked 3D prints and augmented reality models. Luckily, along came the conjoined efforts Makers Empire and Adelaide Festival Centre. Klemzig Primary School students used Makers Empire to construct their creatures one shape at a time. Makers Empire is a 3D design application that allows students and teachers to learn about design and technology.

Creep around Children’s Artspace to find each of the monsters, and do not forget to use your phone to scan all the QR codes so you can play with each of the Klemzig creatures.
