“Amid an always fractured and violent world, Nativity will be a plea for peace and forgiveness between all peoples – and a plea for this peace to overflow to our own contemporary Australian communities at this special time of year.” – Richard Mills
One of the greatest figures in our musical life, composer and conductor Richard Mills brings a long-cherished dream to fruition this Christmas with Nativity, a major new work in which he offers a rich, moving celebration of sacredness, particularly the sacredness of childhood across the world. Bringing the ASO together with vocal soloists and some of Adelaide’s finest choirs, Nativity features texts assembled from the Christmas liturgy, Israeli and Palestinian poets and Australian First Nations’ voices, while Mills weaves traditional Christmas carols in and around his musical tapestry.
The Composer writes: “Christmas is a time for celebration, but also a time to pause and think about some deeper aspects of our life together as a community, and the capacity of children to give us the precious gift of hope.”
