'Songs Inside' - Special Event Film Screening
Adelaide
Zonta International Clubs in South Australia are delighted to partner with ‘Songs Inside’ for a special event fundraiser screening of this compelling, feature-length documentary directed by local filmmaker Shalom Almond.
Songs Inside chronicles the transformative journey of a group of women (The Songbirds) from the Adelaide Women’s Prison who, over six months, discover the healing power of music. The creative process unearths profound struggles with trauma and addiction, demonstrating that even within the complexities of prison life, music can serve as a universal force for healing and hope. Led by Barkindji singer-songwriter Nancy Bates, their journey culminates in a historic performance—the largest concert ever staged within an Australian prison—featuring the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and an audience of over 200 inmates and guests.
Winner of the Adelaide Film Festival Audience Award for Best Documentary, this screening of SONGS INSIDE will be followed by a musical performance from Nancy Bates, Julian Ferraretto and the Songbirds featured in the film.
