2019 Great Kanku-Breakaways Marathon and Fun Run
The Great Kanku-Breakaways Marathon and fun run on 1 June 2019, will be an outback running experience like no other.
Held in the spectacular Kanku-Breakaways Conservation Park, near Coober Pedy, South Australia, the race starts at the main lookout, Kanku Pulka.
Competitors will travel down from the escarpment, through the spectacular coloured hills of the breakaways country, onto the moon plain and alongside the dingo fence.
There is a fun run for kids under 11 and with bikes, dogs and prams able to be included, this event has something for everyone.
Supporters and family members can watch race progress from the start/finish hub, view the exhibits, enjoy the free National Reconciliation Week barbecue and soak up the atmosphere of this special place.
It's more than just a race. Competitors can stay in iconic Coober Pedy for a few days and extend their running experience into a short holiday.
With opportunities to get underground, noodle for some opals, take a mine tour and check out some art, there is so much to see and do. And with water flowing into Lake Eyre from recent northern rains and the bird-life soon to follow, it's a fantastic time to see something incredibly special.
