Visitors can enjoy 14.5 hectares of beautiful scenery at Greenrise Recreational Reserve. Have a picnic, watch the birdlife or take a leisurely walk around the reserve. Located one kilometre south of Penola. A newly paved arboretum at the site allows visitors to explore over 120 species of trees with 6000 plantings and 1200 metres of pathways that are wheelchair accessible. It links to the Adam Lindsay Gordon Walk around a mostly dry lake that is not suitable for wheelchairs.

Penola has gained significant recognition through one of its past residents. It was in Penola that Mother Mary MacKillop set up the Sisters of Mercy, an organisation which through her generous and lifelong good deeds has led to her canonisation as Australia's first saint. Penola is a town that has a unique yet rich history including the many wineries located throughout its localities. These vineyards and wide range of wineries has ultimately helped to diversify the pastoral economy of the area with an agricultural industry. Penola is a fantastic and thriving inland township that is will provide a warm and welcoming reception to all those who visit.
