About the exhibition:
For this exhibition at Hollick Estates Cellar Door, I have selected a range of works that best explain my prepossession with textural surfaces and small details along with my commitment to and passion for using re purposed materials. There is unreservedly a focus on stitch, on embroidery as art rather than representation or emblem. While my work does embrace painting, drawing, collage, printing and mixed media, it is with textile art I find myself most engrossed. I am continually experimenting with techniques and with the application, drawing on threads of thoughts connecting my work embedding dialogue, presenting stories that may be similarly translated by the viewer or provide a platform for alternative narratives. I am always intrigued by what others see in my work.
Multiple layering of techniques, materials, and stitch build the texture, entices a closer look.
Several works present experimentation with technology and stitch allowing threads to weave across the centuries. The simplicity of a stitch making a statement on an image that could only be produced by new technology.
The exhibition includes photographic alterations, collage, mixed media work, abstract impressionism, free-motion embroidery, hand embroidery each work using re purposed, recycled or rescued materials.
