In Adelaide, take a tour of Coopers Brewery, one of the purest beers available in Australia brewed to perfection without the use of preservatives, or visit Port Dock Brewery in historic Port Adelaide and enjoy a beer while hearing tales of the pub's resident ghost.

Travelling in a group of 10 or more? Why not join a South Australian Brewing Company tour where popular West End Draught is produced and see fermentation cellars, the brew house and bottling lines in action.

If you're going for a leisurely drive in the beautiful Adelaide Hills, drop into Grumpy's Brewhaus, Lobethal Bierhaus or try Johnston Wines for delicious, non-alcoholic, full-flavoured cordials.

While the Barossa is famous for its wines, its rich, German heritage extends to beer making as well with two great breweries: Barossa Brewing Company in Greenock and Barossa Valley Brewing in Lyndoch.

Just out of Adelaide, Fleurieu Peninsula is also known for its food and wine and amazing coastal scenery which is inspiring a small group of brewers. Ordering Beer
Ordering a glass of beer in Australia can be a little tricky for first time visitors, because beer measurements and their names vary widely between Australian states.

In South Australian pubs, ask for a 'schooner' or a 'pint'. The South Australian schooner is 285ml - equivalent to an Imperial half pint. The South Australian pint, at 425ml, is slightly smaller than the Imperial 568ml measure. You can also buy beer in 375ml single-serve bottles, known as stubbies.

The legal drinking age in Australia is 18.
