Get the goss from a guide
The city of Adelaide’s compact layout makes it ideal for walking tours. From history and culture to food, photography of wine, there’s bound to be a tour for you.
A great way to get your bearings is to take the First Steps in Adelaide tour. The free 30 - 45 minute walk departs the Adelaide Visitor Information Centre weekdays at 9.30am. Free walking tours are also offered at the Adelaide Botanic Garden, Art Gallery of South Australia and the South Australian Museum. Free tours of the iconic Haigh’s Chocolates factory on the edge of the city are available, although bookings are essential.
Many attractions including Adelaide Oval and West Terrace Cemetery offer guided tours for a fee. Several tour companies offer guided tours, providing a more in-depth view of the city. If time or mobility is an issue, take a bus or coach tour.
Just off the coast
Adelaide has a magnificent coastline – why not see it from the water? You can swim with dolphins or sail into the sunset from Glenelg, go kayaking among shipwrecks at Port Adelaide or take a fishing charter from Adelaide Shores or North Haven.
Of course, Adelaide is a great base for your stay, with day trips and extended tours available to the surrounding regions of South Australia.
