The Great Kanku-Breakaways Bolt, is an outback running experience like no other.
Held in the spectacular Kanku-Breakaways Conservation Park, near Coober Pedy, South Australia, the race starts at the main lookout, Kanku Pulka.
Competitors will travel down from the escarpment, through the spectacular coloured hills of the breakaways country, onto the moon plain, and alongside the dingo fence.
Then back to the finish line via the Angkata (Bearded Dragon) lookout.
The event includes:
72km bike ride
36km bike ride
42.2km marathon
21.1km half marathon
10km out n back (run or ride)
5km dash
2.3km kids mini bolt (under 12s)
Bikes, dogs, and prams are allowed.
Supporters and family members can watch race progress from the start/finish hub, view the exhibits, enjoy the free National Reconciliation Week barbecue and soak up the atmosphere of this special place.
It's more than just a race. Competitors can stay in iconic Coober Pedy for a few days and extend their running experience into a short holiday or stay the week and spend the following weekend at the Coober Pedy Opal Festival!
With opportunities to get underground, noodle for some opals, take a mine tour and check out some art, there is much to see and do.
