Khruangbin - WOMADelaide
Adelaide
Monday night WOMADelaide headliners, Khruangbin.
Known for their fluid psychedelic grooves and hypnotic live performances, Texan trio Khruangbin returns to Australia after their biggest year yet. The 2024 tour for their latest album A LA SALA kicked off at Coachella and sold-out shows in the US and Canada, before festivals throughout Europe, including Nos Alive (Lisbon) and Bilbao BBK. Since forming in 2010, Khruangbin’s sonic journey has been emphatically its own: shrugging off genre expectations as they explore funk, disco, soul, surf rock and dub. With Laura ‘Leezy’ Lee on bass, Mark Speer on guitar, and Donald Johnson, Jr. on drums, they have gained widespread acclaim for their mesmerising, mostly instrumental sound and collaborations with artists such as Vieux Farka Toure and Leon Bridges. Their name, the Thai word for ‘airplane’, hints at the many influences from around the globe that have inspired them.
Held on the traditional lands of the Kaurna People, WOMADelaide – World Of Music Arts and Dance - is an iconic open-air festival celebrating cultural discovery in the heart of Adelaide’s stunning Botanic Park / Tainmuntilla. The Worlds Festival, since 1992, is a truly unique part of the Australian festival landscape, showcasing the best, the essential – and the surprising – in music, arts, dance and ideas from around the world.
