A life-size bronze statue commemorates Alexander Cameron and was created by John Dowie.
This statue was erected by public subscription on Church Street beside the Royal Oak Hotel.
Alexander Cameron (1810 - 1881), known widely as the King of Penola, is remembered as the district's first squatter and the town's founder.
Alexander arrived from Scotland in 1844. His niece was Mary MacKillop. Alexander Cameron is
responsible for building the first cottages and the Royal Oak hotel in 1848.
