An exhibition of stellar artworks by prominent contemporary First Nations artists, Big Sky surveys pieces from significant South Australian institutions, including University of South Australia, Flinders University Museum of Art and the Riddoch's own collection.
There is a special ability present in the works of this all male exhibition and it is the ability to make time slow down – to almost make it stop. From the focused and penetrating gaze of Beaver Lennon's highly realised deserts and seascapes, where you can almost walk into the painting and feel the air on your skin, to the warm and gentle hand of Ian Abdulla's narrative landscapes that recall stories and express intimate feelings, Big Sky showcases a group of artworks that feel bigger than their frames.
Opening up spaces in the smallest of the Riddoch's spaces, Big Sky is an exhibition of works that have a magnetism that will stay with you long after
you leave the gallery.
