Overview
One of South Australia's oldest buildings, Adelaide Gaol features unique architecture, and a wealth of history.
Over 147 years, the Gaol housed some of the state's most notorious and dangerous criminals. Step back in time and walk the hallways and cells of South Australia's first inmates. Experience what life was like behind bars for almost 300,000 prisoners who once called Adelaide Gaol home. Open for business from 1841 to 1988, the Gaol was one of Australia's longest continuously operational prison facilities.
Enjoy a self-guided tour, or book a guided ghost tour or history tour with one of our four private tour operators. We also offer guided education programs which are great for school groups - bookings essential.
Please note the Goal is closed when booked for private events. These are advertised ahead of time on our website and Facebook page.
