Event
Direct from Italy's Arena di Verona, Franco Zeffirelli's legendary direction of Verdi's AIDA will be staged exclusively in Adelaide at the iconic Adelaide Oval. For two historic nights in February 2026, this once-in-a-generation world first will bring the entire production to Australia, including principal performers, orchestra, chorus, ballet and 28 containers of sets, props and costumes.
Renowned for his cinematic brilliance, Zeffirelli transforms Verdi's masterpiece into an all-encompassing spectacle. Towering sets recreate ancient Egypt, while lavish costumes and vast ensemble scenes evoke temples, royal courts and battlefield glory. At Adelaide Oval, the production will unfold across 100 metres of interactive staging, immersing audiences in every detail.
This monumental staging features more than 400 artists and technicians from Verona, supported by 300 local crew. At its heart are a 100-piece orchestra and 150-member chorus, delivering Verdi's score in full grandeur. The stellar international cast includes two Australian principals.
Leading the production are two of opera's greatest stars. Jonas Kaufmann, hailed as "the world's greatest tenor" sings Radamès on Thursday 5 February, with Brian Jagde performing the role on Friday 6 February. The title role is shared by Grammy Award-winner Angel Blue and celebrated Verdi specialist María José Siri.
AIDA promises breathtaking artistry, unforgettable drama and a scale never before seen in Australia.
