A music and human rights project, Daughters of Donbas — Songs of Stolen Children exists to highlight the plight of at least 20,000 Ukranian children abducted from occupied Ukraine and taken to Russia. Singer, musician, human rights advocate and war correspondent, Marichka is the powerful voice of the project, in which she performs with a string quartet. She is a former member of Canadian folk ensembles Lemon Bucket Orkestra and Balaklava Blues and has performed at Carnegie Hall, the Barbican Centre and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and won an Amnesty International Prize. Drawing on Ukrainian folk music, Marichka uses the traditional technique of 'white voice', characterised by its bright, loud and clear sound, produced with an open throat.
