The Tanunda Heritage Trail is a 2.5km walk through the 'old town' of Tanunda. Beginning at the Barossa Visitor Centre, the trail weaves its way along Murray Street, past the Barossa Museum, before inviting walkers to explore the heritage buildings that line Jane Place, Ellen Place, John Street, Maria Street and Bilyara Road.
A particular highlight of the trail is the beautiful Goat Square, once considered Taununda's town centre. Early colonial settlers would gather here to swap stories and barter goods. Three original cottages survive on the corners of Goat Square, transporting visitors back to a time of rowdy Ziegenmarkts!
Scattered along the Tanunda Heritage Trail are several markers displaying historical photographs and tales of early Barossa, providing a rare insight into a fascinating part of South Australian history.
Tanunda Heritage Trail maps are available online or at the Barossa Visitor Centre.
