Attraction
The gallery and museum showcases the original family settlers to Eudunda and surrounds from the 1800s onwards. This includes comprehensive family trees with numerous photos, research books, many written by the families, history items related to Eudunda and surrounds. From small items, souvenirs, back editions of the Eudunda Courier newspaper up to large exhibits of early farming machinery.
The main gallery had the ceiling replaced, which allowed upgrades to many exhibits, with brighter lighting creating a more welcoming space. A public research area has been added with many books that are no longer available in print.
One of the key attractions is a restored cottage, providing a glimpse at what life was like in the late 1800s. The wedding room features beautiful examples of what early brides wore.
Eudunda is also the birthplace of Colin Thiele, famous author of many poems and books - Storm Boy and Sun on the Stubble to name just two. Colin was born in Eudunda, lived his early life in Julia, and returned to live in Eudunda with his two bachelor uncles while completing higher primary school - his uncle's house is still standing on Barwell Street. A Colin Thiele Tour brochure is available showing places of significance for a young Colin.
Parking is available right out front.
