The MFV Tacoma is a fully restored 1950s tuna poling vessel, lovingly cared for by the volunteers of the Tacoma Preservation Society. Officially registered as a historic vessel with the Australian National Maritime Museum, she offers visitors a rare chance to step back in time and experience the golden era of Australia's tuna industry.
From short day trips on Boston Bay to multi-day offshore adventures, Tacoma's voyages are unforgettable. Join our famous tuna poling trips (3–5 days) and relive the excitement of hauling in tuna the old-fashioned way – with a bamboo pole and metal lure. For the adventurous, Tacoma has sailed to the Hobart Wooden Boat Festival, Port Fairy, and even the remote Investigator Group in the Great Australian Bight.
Closer to home, highlights include the annual wool pick-up to Taylor Island, acting as a mothership for tuna competitions, and hosting a back-deck seafood experience for cruise ship guests.
At her Port Lincoln berth, Tacoma becomes a floating museum. Our guided tours showcase her story and the rise of the tuna industry, welcoming groups of all sizes – from individual visitors to school excursions, providing a hands-on, engaging maritime learning experience.
Passenger numbers are capped at 49 guests for bay cruises and 12 for offshore trips, ensuring an intimate adventure every time.
Step aboard Tacoma – where history, adventure, and seafood meet.
