Attraction
Set alongside the gum tree–lined Belalie Creek that winds through the heart of Jamestown, Digger's Walk is a peaceful heritage trail with deep historical roots. Originally created as a project for returned servicemen after World War I, the walk was built by local veterans who planted trees and constructed rustic bridges, paths, and small shelters along the creek.
In recent years, the Jamestown community has lovingly restored the walk and enhanced it with interpretive displays telling the stories of the town and its connection to the First World War. Along the path you'll discover moving letters, diary excerpts, photographs, and personal stories that reveal the experiences of local men and women during the war.
A highlight of the walk is the story of Sir Hubert Wilkins — one of Australia's most remarkable yet often overlooked explorers. His incredible adventures in polar exploration, aviation, and journalism may surprise you.
Digger's Walk is also a wonderful place to relax and enjoy nature. Bring a picnic, cook a barbecue, feed the ducks, and take a leisurely stroll along the tranquil creek.
