The Louden Brae School is a small restored one-teacher schoolhouse located near Jamestown in the Mid North of South Australia. It was built in 1905 and served local farming families until about 1950.
It's particularly famous because Australian bushman and businessman R. M. Williams attended the school with his sister Effie when they were children. The siblings reportedly rode about 5 km in a sulky from their family farm, sometimes racing other students to school from a nearby crossroad. Williams later joked that he was "never a great scholar."
Today the stone building has been restored as a historic site, giving visitors a glimpse of what early rural schooling in the Mid North and Southern Flinders Ranges was like.
