The Great Pumpkin & Sunflower Competition

What began as a light-hearted challenge between a small group of friends has blossomed into one of Spalding's most anticipated community events — Giant Pumpkin & Sunflower Competition. The idea was simple at first: plant a few seeds, share a few laughs, and see who could grow the biggest pumpkin or tallest sunflower. But as enthusiasm spread, so did the vision.

Seeing the joy and connection it brought to locals, the founding group decided to take it to the next level, partnering with the Spalding War Memorial Committee to ensure the event would grow in both scale and purpose. Together, they've transformed a backyard hobby into a community-wide celebration that brings people of all ages together — from kids sowing their first seeds to seasoned gardeners chasing record-breaking giants.
