Hatherleigh is a small South Australian rural location within the local government area of Wattle Range. It is located approximately 322kms from the capital Adelaide covering an area of 88.743 square kilometres. Hatherleigh has a recorded population of 154 residents.

Hatherleigh, was named by Governor Jervois, whose family seat was in Devonshire, proclaimed on 20 November 1879. It has a namesake in Devonshire. Hatherleigh means Hawthorn wood.
