Shimmering Worlds invites you to experience the often-overlooked lifeblood of regional community life, where shared activities bring differing groups of people together in collective visions of care, craft and memory.

Unfolding across several evocative vignettes, the film captures the rhythm, camaraderie, and spirit of these contrasting communal spaces through the objects and voices that surround them. We hear of the quiet craft of the North Yorke quilters and the Country Women's Association Moonta, the devotion of animal carers at Little Claws Rescue, a meditation on the Cornish pastie and the inventive language reclamation work of Nharangga Aboriginal Progress Association.

Using documentary, digital collage, and handmade props, this moving image work transforms the creations and ideas that are produced or cared for by local groups across the Yorke Peninsula. Together the works form a dreamlike tableau that reveals the contributions of those that sign up to collective pursuits.

This project was initially developed through the Adelaide Film Festival EXPAND Lab and supported by the Office for Ageing Well.
