Murray River Lakes and Coorong

Initially, the trail heads north following the Murray River, passing under the rail and road bridges, remnants of rail and shipping heritage before reaching the Rocky Gully wetlands with its prolific bird life. A short section along an urban road follows before the trail goes off road following the edge of the main Adelaide-Melbourne rail line into Rocky Gully and Kinchina Conservation Park. Kinchina features extensive flora, fauna and wildlife. Links connect to an extensive trail network.
Exiting Kinchina, the trail runs along the southern boundary of the 1500 ha Monarto Safari Park where many exotic animals can usually be seen. At the zoo western boundary, the trail heads north next to a disused rail track before exiting to the Monarto Recreation Reserve, a popular overnight stop. Facilities include toilets, BBQ and overnight shelter.
West along Hartman Road, the trail enters Crown Land, through woodlands before heading north, initially on Highland Road before entering private property, over the Murray Bridge- Onkaparinga pipeline, quiet backroads then offroad past the heritage listed Preamimma Mines (Deep vertical mineshafts are on private property). through open farmlands, before encountering some steep climbs as the eastern side of the Mount Lofty Ranges is reached.
The final part of this section of trail is a very steep assent to the summit of 500 metre high Mount Beevor. The 360-degree views are stunning. Southern Ocean and Coorong to the south, Mounts Barker and Lofty west, Barossa
