Loveday was known for its internment camp during World War 2.
The camp was established in 1941 (and was one of the largest in Australia) with an impressive collection of recorded interviews, live footage, photos and artifacts a display inside the Barmera Visitor Information Centre.
By late 1943 all of the internees had been transferred to camp 14 and the other camps were closed down.
Most of the buildings were dismantled and auctioned off. Looking out across the area now, there is virtually no sign that this little known chapter of SA History ever occurred.
