WORLD-CLASS INTERNATIONAL RACING RETURNS TO SOUTH AUSTRALIA - ALONG WITH FUN, FOOD, BEVERAGE, ENTERTAINMENT AND THE STATE’S BEST ON SHOW.
The Santos Tour Down Under is the largest cycling event in the southern hemisphere and first on the international calendar each year. As the greatest names in world cycling descend on Adelaide, battling it out through the city and surrounding regions, a festival atmosphere like no other sweeps the state.
But it’s not just pro cyclists who have all the fun. The Santos Tour Down Under features a range of associated events, participation rides, music and community celebrations, together creating a massive party across South Australia. With long lunches served up trackside, day trips following the race, world-renowned wine regions and street parties, there’s so much to see and do.
Amid all the action each January for the Santos Tour Down Under it can be hard knowing where to start. Don’t sweat. We’ve pulled together a comprehensive guide to the highlights.
1. Men’s and Women’s Road Race
The best international cyclists launch their seasons in South Australia – visiting wine regions, sparkling coastline and welcoming towns as they vie for crucial points. In 2023 the women’s race joined the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Women’s WorldTour: the highest level of professional competition, a move that takes it to the same top tier as the men’s event. Race director Stuart O’Grady OAM designs new race routes each year, with huge climbs, beachside sprints and street circuits among highlights.
