Welcome to McLaren Vale, where coastal air, vineyard light and long lunches set the mood.
Just south of the city, McLaren Vale delivers the good stuff without the fuss. Think coastal air, winter‑sunlit vineyards and long lunches that turn into stories. This easy two‑day escape is built around flavour, fresh sea air and one very fun reason to raise a glass.
Day 1 Adelaide to McLaren Vale
Slip out of Adelaide mid morning and head south, arriving in McLaren Vale with plenty of daylight to spare. Check in, drop your bags, then ease into the weekend with a relaxed cellar door start.
Make The Currant Shed your first stop. Their Amazing Winter TukTuk Tour pairs a gentle vineyard ride with a two course seasonal lunch – all about local produce, thoughtful wine matches and slowing the pace just enough to savour it. Spend the afternoon browsing the McLaren Vale township, popping into providores and galleries, or take the scenic route for a quick coastal detour – cliffs, surf and that salty air doing its thing.
As the sun dips, lean into the fun at OysterPalooza. Expect fresh local oysters, good wine and a crowd ready to shout “Boom – Shuck Alaka!” It’s lively, unpretentious and very McLaren Vale.
Return to your accommodation full, happy and glad you didn’t rush.

Day 2 McLaren Vale - Normanville - Adelaide
Start slow. Sleep in, then wander out for coffee and baked that morning goodness at The Cottage Bakery — a local favourite for very good reason. It’s the kind of place that sets the pace for the day without you even realising.
Before heading north, fit in one last easy stop. Choose a relaxed final tasting at Angove Family Winemakers, Aphelion Wine Cellar Door or Serafino, or add a dose of the unexpected at The d’Arenberg Cube, where art, wine and views stack up in all the right ways.
If the weather’s kind, detour via Normanville for a beach walk — shoes optional, worries definitely not. Stretch the day a little further with a stop at Dapper Chap Distillery, then roll back into Adelaide by early evening, relaxed, well fed and already planning the next escape.
